Yellowknife Centre MLA Julie Green seeking a second term

Julie Green, MLA for Yellowknife Centre, will run for a second term in the fall 2019 territorial election.

Green says her focus, if elected, will be on affordable housing, reducing the cost of living ‘by fighting government fee and rate increases’ and investing in clean energy. She states she also wants to focus on growing the economy through investments in the ‘tourism, fisheries, agriculture, manufacturing and construction’ industries.

“I will continue to be a strong advocate for my constituents who have difficulties accessing government services and programs,” Green stated.

In the announcement of her intention to run, Green listed results she has achieved in her first term, including ‘improving access to affordable housing, pushing for full funding of junior kindergarten (and) pushing for binding arbitration to avoid a public sector strike.’

Green is serving her first term as a regular MLA, she is also chair of Caucus and chair of the Special Committee to Increase the Representation of Women in the Legislative Assembly.

Of the 19 MLAs in the NWT Legislative Assembly, two are women. Green has been advocating for more women in a legislature which ranks last among all of Canada’s parliaments in the representation of women.
