Paul Betsina announces run for MLA of Tu Nedhé-Wiilideh

Paul Betsina has announced his intention to run for MLA in the riding of Tu Nedhé-Wiilideh. Betsina is the Business Development Manager at Det’on Cho Corporation and a member of the Yellowknives Dene First Nation.

Betsina states that he was brought up in two worlds, experiencing the benefits and challenges of modern and traditional lifestyles and feels that the constituents of Tu Nedhé-Wiilideh need strong representation at the Territorial level and that their voices need to be heard regarding many issues.

“I have had the benefit of being raised by my extended family and my community, in turn, I was surrounded by many wise leaders that have guided me to this point in life, a point where I am ready to represent all the people of Tu Nedhé-Wiilideh.”

Betsina was first elected to the Council of the YKDFN in 2011 and then re-elected in 2015. He stepped down from Council in 2017 to take on his current role at Det’on Cho Corporation.

A release on his behalf states that while serving as a Councillor, Betsina had a major impact in helping youth have a voice in decision making and a seat at the meeting table with the help and guidance of their elders.

“During his tenure, Paul worked with his elected peers to provide a supportive atmosphere that allowed his First Nation to grow and prosper.”

The release adds that his knowledge of the mining industry and consultative approach helped the YKDFN, along with other First Nations, negotiate an Impacts Benefit Agreement that was ground-breaking in its scope and benefit to the people of his chosen riding.

Incumbent Tom Beaulieu will not seek re-election in the district leaving Betsina, Steve Norn and Nadine Delorme as the other publicly declared candidates.
