Two lifelong Yellowknifers named to Order of NWT

Buffalo Airways president Joe McBryan and YWCA NWT executive director Lyda Fuller, both of Yellowknife, have been inducted into the Order of the Northwest Territories. It is the highest honour the territory awards to its residents.

According to a news release from the Legislative Assembly, the Order of the NWT recognizes people who have “served with the greatest distinction and excelled in any field of endeavour benefiting the people of the N.W.T. or elsewhere.”

McBryan, founder and president of Buffalo Airways, has helped families in need, providing sports teams and schools discounted fares and assisted Elders when they were short on airfare according to the release.

Fuller was nominated for her public service as she has been a leader of the YWCA for over two decades. She is an advocate for programs and services that enhance the safety of women and families across the North.

When making their decision, the council of the order noted that “both Mr. McBryan and Mrs. Fuller inspire northerners to expand our horizons and give back to our communities.”

McBryan and Fuller will be inducted into the order in a ceremony at the Legislative Assembly at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 20th.
