Yellowknife RCMP has initiated a search and rescue to locate a lost hiker in the area of Vee Lake Road and found her, safe and sound.

At approximately 9:07 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18, the Yellowknife RCMP received a call for service regarding a lost hiker on Ranney Hill Trail, in the area of Vee Lake Road.

A 38-year-old woman was hiking the trail alone. After being disoriented and because the darkness was settling in, she could not find her way out. She called a friend for help, who redirected the request for assistance to the RCMP.

RCMP members, with the assistance of NT RCMP Police Dog Service, went out to Vee Lake Road. The RCMP police dog located the hiker shortly after on the trail and she was brought to safety, with no injuries.

“We are thankful we found the hiker safe and sound. RCMP would like to remind people to always tell a friend or family member where you are going and ideally, to not go out alone. Also, make sure you dress appropriately for the weather and carry a communication device” Staff Sergeant Yannick Hamel, Operations Manager for Yellowknife RCMP said.
