Another stabbing occurs in downtown Yellowknife

The second stabbing in less than a week in downtown Yellowknife occurred Tuesday evening.

At approximately 9:25  p.m., on Tuesday, September 24, 2019, Yellowknife RCMP received a call for service regarding an alleged aggravated assault in the area of 50 Avenue and 50 Street in downtown Yellowknife near the Raven Pub.

Upon arrival on-site, RCMP members attended to a 28-year-old man, who sustained a non-life threatening injury. The man was transported by the City of Yellowknife Emergency Medical Services to the hospital for treatment.

Shortly after, Yellowknife RCMP arrested a suspect at his residence without incident. The suspect, Christopher Cook, a 34-year-old man, is in custody and is charged with:

  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Aggravated assault
  • Operation while prohibited

At this point, the incident does not appear to be random in nature and the RCMP does not believe there is a concern for public safety. The investigation is ongoing.
