Lakeshore Co-Op’s Fill A Ford raises over 15 K

The Fill A Ford fundraiser at the Hay River Lakeshore Co-Op’s raised over $15,000 over the weekend. The funds will go to the Hay River Soup Kitchen, a local non profit that is run by a dedicated team of volunteers and community activists.

Hay River Garden Society among recipients of community program fund

A community fund program announces its year 13 recipients as it surpasses $1 million in total funding awarded to community-led initiatives across Alta. and the N.W.T. This year, three local projects will receive support for initiatives focused on  food security, literacy, and animal wellness. The local projects are being led by The Hay River Garden Society, Northern Quill Publishing and the NWT SPCA.

Suspect facing drug related charges connected to a stolen vehicle

A 33-year-old is facing drug related charges in connection to an alleged incident of vehicle theft. According to the report, on Saturday RCMP received a tip that two people were on route to BehchokÇ«̀€ to deliver drugs. RCMP reported that they located the vehicle at a gas station in the city of Yellowknife. Police said the vehicle had been reported stolen on Dec. 2.

Dr. Kandola issues advisory as flu related hospitalizations rise

The Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Kami Kandola has issued a public advisory that there is a significant increase in influenza activity in the territory, particularly in Yellowknife. Dr. Kandola reported that most cases so far are Influenza A (H3 subtypes) with two-thirds of cases occurring in children and adolescents under 18. According to the report, the trend is expected to spread to other communities and the general population, especially as the holiday season approaches.

YK man facing charges after allegedly making false 911 call

A Yellowknife man is facing charges after allegedly fleeing from police after making a false emergency call to 9-1-1 last month. The 27-year-old suspect was allegedly the subject of outstanding charges when the incident occurred in the city last month, said police.
