Update: Search for missing fishermen still ongoing with ROV

Hay River RCMP and its partner’s agencies are continuing the search for the four missing commercial fishermen.

Hay River RCMP is partnering with the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary (CCGA) and the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) and their vessels in a continued water-based search for any signs of the fishermen.

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) has also been engaged and partnering with the Canadian Coast Guard to conduct grid searches between the south shore and Windy Bay area. A Remotely Operated Underwater Vehicle (ROV) is being utilized to examine the partially submerged fishing vessel.

A ROV is similar to a robot, which is fitted out with sensors to collect various type of data. It is equipped with a lighting system and a video camera.

On Tuesday, October 1, a submerged boat was located near Windy Bay and was later identified as the vessel used by the overdue fishermen.

The fishermen have been missing since Sunday, September 29.

The investigation is ongoing and more information will be provided as it becomes available.
