RCMP is investigating a motor vehicle collision that claimed the life of two persons over the long weekend.

At approximately 9:00 a.m., on Monday, October 14, the RCMP attended the site of a fatal motor vehicle collision near KM 268 on Highway 3, between Behchoko and Yellowknife.

A small sedan was travelling west to Behchoko when it collided with a semi-trailer travelling east to Yellowknife.

Both occupants of the sedan, a 47-year-old man and a 47-year-old woman, were deceased upon arrival. The driver of the semi-trailer did not sustain any injury.

The City of Yellowknife Fire Division and Emergency Medical Services attended the site. The highway was closed for some time for RCMP collision analyst to process the scene.

The investigation into this motor vehicle collision is ongoing. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
