Ten cancer survivors take the runway to raise funds for the nearly 1 in 2 women who will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime at Syncrude presents Fashion with Compassion.
The annual event is the signature fundraiser of Compassion House Foundation, in support of women battling cancer who stay at Sorrentino’s Compassion House during their treatment.
2019 marks the 23 rd year of this world-class fashion show, produced by Canadian legend Kelly Streit, President and CEO of modemodels.
The two glitzy events of high fashion with Edmonton’s luxury retailers also feature Greta Constantine, a collection of ready-to-wear womenswear based out of Toronto by award-winning Canadian fashion designers, Kirk Pickersgill and Stephen Wong.
The highlight of the event is the Special Model Segment, featuring ten former guests of Sorrentino’s Compassion House who take to the stage to represent courage and survival from one of the biggest health threats to women in Canada — Cancer.
“I was a bit apprehensive when I first arrived at Sorrentino’s Compassion House, however, soon my mind was at east and my heart was full,” Donna Whitford, breast cancer survivor and former guest of the House from Yellowknife, NWT said. “The House is such a welcoming, modern facility, and it feels like home.”
It is estimated that 220,400 new cancer diagnoses and 82,100 deaths will occur in Canada in 2019. Women from communities across Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Yukon, Northwest Territories and beyond will have to travel to Edmonton for cancer treatment.
“Funds raised at Syncrude presents Fashion with Compassion provide critical support to ensure the women battling cancer who stay at the Sorrentino’s Compassion House can continue to access affordable accommodations during this challenging time in their lives,” Michelle Okere, CEO of Compassion House Foundation said.
Compassion House Foundation operates Sorrentino’s Compassion House, a haven for women who must travel to Edmonton for cancer treatment. Since opening in 2002, over 1,535 women from more than 274 communities across Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Yukon, Northwest Territories and beyond have found a haven at Sorrentino’s Compassion House.
