Alison Harrower is the Communications and Economic Development Officer with the City of Yellowknife.
“The Yellowknife Fire Division (YKFD) were dispatched yesterday morning, Thursday, October 24, at approximately 9:11 a.m., in response to a report of smoke coming from 5022 – 49th street, Centre Square Mall,” Harrower said. “Engine 8 and Medic 7 responded to the call.”
Update: Crews have made it to the roof of the building. “Zero smoke or fire has been found.” @1001TheMoose 49th Street has been closed here in #Yellowknife pic.twitter.com/aKb5Fhybvn

Harrower says that on arrival at the scene, an investigation was completed and the cause of smoke was determined to be a boiler misfire. The RCMP and Municipal Enforcement closed 49th street during the investigation for a short period of time and rerouted traffic.
No injuries were reported and no evacuation occurred.
