Mary Caroline celebrates album release in Yellowknife

“Sometimes cabin fever sets in.”

Half the time, Mary Caroline is in Toronto or Vancouver, playing shows and house concerts.

Much of the rest is spent in an isolated cabin on the NWT’s Liard River, between Fort Liard and Fort Simpson.

“It’s definitely two very different ways to live,” she admits.

“I can get anxious and decide I need to go to Fort Simpson or Liard – just to see people.”

The cabin has been credited with helping to inspire Caroline’s new album, Life On Earth, which is celebrated in a release party at Yellowknife’s Top Knight on Tuesday evening.

That’s despite – possibly, because of – the bugs in summer, the lack of electricity and running water, and “wash water from a rain barrel”.

“I tried, with this album, to have the production be light and pop-influenced,” Caroline tells Moose FM.

“It’s kind-of a pop-folk album. For people from the south, it might take them on a bit of a northern adventure.

“I hope they have a little bounce in their step after they hear some of the tracks.”
