Northern Property responds to flooded-out tenant

Yellowknife, NWT –  An update now on a story we told you about Wednesday on the plight of a Yellowknife woman flooded out of her apartment after the pipes broke.

Margaret Beauchamps says she’s now in a hotel, and her landlord Northern Property is cleaning up her unit.

“Wednesday afternoon the maintenance crew came in and removed all of the carpeting. The regional manager of Northern Property here in Yellowknife has placed me in the Capital Suites until Friday but we’ll see after that.”

Beauchamps says she can’t see how her unit will be liveable by Friday.

She says the whole issue has left her heartbroken and she still isn’t entirely sure where she’ll be living after Friday.

Yellowknife Centre MLA Robert Hawkins has taken up Beauchamp’s case.

He says even though they’ve helped somewhat, Northern Property needs to do a better job of taking care of its tenants in an emergency.
