A Community for Seniors celebrates the support received for the Tree of Giving, Silent Auction and Bake Sale.

AVENS vision is ensuring seniors have access to a safe and caring community for life. Yellowknife has overwhelmed
AVENS with the support received from the entire community and beyond.

Generous donations of products, gift certificates, baked goods and volunteer time allowed for the execution of a memorable open-house event on Saturday November 16, 2019.

The Silent Auction & Bake Sale raised an outstanding $7,700 for the purchase of Christmas gifts and to support
several events throughout the year for the seniors. Participants at the event were treated to door prizes, draws,
baked goodies and beautiful gifts that were donated for bidding in the Silent Auction.

For the first year, AVENS established the Tree of Giving which has turned out to become a smashing success. The
Tree of Giving offers a choice of either purchasing items from a resident senior’s wish list, or donating money
towards the purchase of items for seniors.

The gifts from the wish list will be returned to AVENS by December 20, 2019 and given to the seniors at Christmas.

Every wish list was selected by community and business members from the Tree of Giving within 72 hours of launch.

AVENS extends a sincere thank you to the individuals, groups, and organizations for supporting the silent auction,
bake sale and Tree of Giving.

The contributions have ensured seniors will have a great Holiday Season from a caring community.

AVENS was established to meet the needs of the growing number of soon-to-be-retired miners and prospectors (many of whom were bachelors) who would need support to live out their retirement years in Yellowknife.
