Extreme Cold Warning in effect for Yellowknife

An Extreme Cold Warning is in effect for Yellowknife tonight. A period of very cold wind chills is expected.

The wind chill is expected to reach -50 tonight but should moderate on Monday morning.

Environment Canada warns that extreme cold puts everyone at risk and to watch for cold related symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.

In temperatures this extreme, frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.

Environment Canada reminds residents that if “it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside.”
