Increased RCAF activities in Yellowknife

Early Monday April 20th, Canadian Armed Forces released a statement advising residents of Yellowknife of increased Royal Canadian Air Force activity operating out of Yellowknife Airport.

The aircrafts, including CC-177 Globemasters and CC-130J Hercules are conducting regular resupply missions to northern Canadian Armed Forces establishments, including Canadian Forces Station Alert.

While normally based in 8 Wing/CFB Trenton, Ontario, National Defence states the aircrafts have been forward deployed to Yellowknife to eliminate the need to refueling stops they normally are required to make when operating out of southern locales, thereby helping to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19.

Aircrew taking part in these missions have been sequestered prior to engaging in these flights, and use Personal Protective Equipment, as appropriate, to ensure the health of everyone in northern communities and Canadian Armed Forces establishments.

The aircrew are staying in separate military accommodations outside of Yellowknife.
