Yellowknife RCMP warn of another possible child luring

Police in Yellowknife are reminding parents to go over safety protocols with their kids following another possible child luring attempt in the city.

RCMP say a couple of “suspicious vehicles” have also been reported in the community in the past week.

Last Friday, police say a man driving a red SUV pulled up beside a young boy and tried to offer him a “lollipop” near the intersection of Taylor Road and Phinney Court. RCMP say the boy knew to deny the offer and returned home unharmed.

The following day, two children playing near Mildred Hall School reported having their picture taken by a man who then approached them and asked them to go with him. Again, police say the children knew better than to accept the offer.

The man in that incident has been described as possibly Caucasian and around 60-years-old. He was last seen wearing a black jacket, track pants and sneakers.

Finally, police say a third suspicious incident was reported on Tuesday, when they received word of a fishy vehicle at the corner of Finlayson Drive and Kam Lake Road.

RCMP say a man was seen taking pictures in the area, though no children were involved.

Police say the man could be of Oriental descent and that he was last seen wearing sunglasses and a yellow or orange shirt. At the time, he was driving a silver SUV.

RCMP don’t believe any of the incidents are related. Their investigations continue.
