Northern Property’s head office responds to flooded-out tenant

Yellowknife, NWT – A Yellowknife woman says her landlord has done an about-face since she was flooded out of her apartment last week.

Margaret Beauchamp says Northern Property is promising to renovate her apartment and has agreed to cover her hotel bill until the unit is ready.

She says that’s a lot better than the treatment she received last week when the landlord offered her a more expensive replacement apartment, then told her she’d have to cover her hotel bill.

Beauchamp says she got some satisfaction, once Northern Property’s head office got involved.

“I think once the people from Calgary came and saw the damage to my apartment and the circumstances I was left in, they realized that everything that took place was out of my control. In reality, the treatment for me was unacceptable, it should have been dealt with in a different manner.”

Beauchamp says the response from Yellowknifers to her plight has been overwhelming.

She says even with some of her property water-damaged, she can’t wait to return to her apartment.

However, Beauchamp is still not entirely sure exactly when that is going to happen.
