Yellowknife’s Steven Hodges signs entry level contract with NHL’s Panthers

Yellowknife, NWT – A Yellowknife athlete says he’s one step closer to realizing his dream this week.

It was announced on Sunday that Steven Hodges, who was drafted by the NHL’s Florida Panthers in 2012, has signed an entry level contract with the club.

We reached Hodges in Tsawwassen, B.C where he’s currently training.

He has this message for aspiring northern athletes.

“I think it just goes to show that it doesn’t matter where you’re from or how little of a chance you might have. You just have to get your name out there and do everything in your power to reach your dream. Obviously I still have a long way to go before I realize my dream of playing in the NHL but that is just another step that gets me closer and I’m very excited for it.”

The 20-year-old centre says he’s honoured to sign with a first class organization like Florida.

He says none of this would have been possible without the love and support of his parents.
