Yellowknife R.C.M.P to honour officers killed in Moncton with community vigil

Yellowknife, NWT – R.C.M.P members from the Yellowknife detachment will be celebrating the lives of some of their fallen comrades Tuesday.

Jenna Long, the wife of R.C.M.P Constable Adam Long in town, explains.

“We’re calling it a Yellowknife community vigil and it’s in memory of the three R.C.M.P officers that were shot and killed in Moncton last week. We also want to show our support for the two members who were injured as well as local officers.”

Long says the vigil will be held right outside Yellowknife headquarters downtown.

She says white helium balloons will be released to signify community peace and hope followed by three blue balloons in memory of the three fallen members.

Long says anyone interested in attending should meet at 9:30 Tuesday morning.

The vigil is designed to precede the nationally televised memorial service from Moncton, which starts at 10am Mountain Time.
