8th annual Ramble & Ride takes over Yellowknife’s Old Town this weekend

Yellowknife, NWT – The 8th annual Ramble and Ride Festival is coming to Yellowknife’s Old Town this weekend.

The event is put on by the businesses, artists and musicians of Old Town, providing residents with the chance to walk and bike down the hill to take in the area’s unique character and culture.

This is Nico Koenig’s first year serving as festival coordinator.

“I’ve lived in a lot of places in Canada but there’s nothing quite like Old Town. Its history, architecture, music and arts scene make the area so vibrant. Part of this festival is to celebrate the culture of Old Town.”

Koenig says some highlights include various walking tours, including one with Mayor Mark Heyck, as well as performances from a number of local artists.

He says visitors will also have a chance to win an N.W.T diamond by getting their passport stamped at different Old Town businesses.

The city is reminding motorists that McDonald Drive will close for part of the weekend.

Officials say the road will be closed from noon until 5:00 p.m. Saturday and from noon until 4 p.m. Sunday.

Bus stops along McDonald Drive will not be accessible Sunday, though buses will continue to serve N’Dilo and Wiley Road via Ingraham Drive.
