Yk1 opens school’s gym to public in light of smoky conditions

Yellowknife, NWT – One more facility in Yellowknife is inviting residents to exercise indoors when smoke conditions worsen in the city.

Yk1 says Sir John Franklin’s gym will now be available every weekday for recreational use from 8am to 8pm and on weekends from 8am until 4pm effective Tuesday.

Director of Corporate Services Tram Do with Yk1 explains.

“This idea came about from our Board Chair John Stephenson. He really wants us to play a public role by making our facilities available to the citizens of Yellowknife during this smoky time. It’s hard on people’s health and if people have physical regimens they normally maintain, these conditions can make it difficult for them.”

Do says staff will be on call to arrange any bookings.

All services are free of charge.

She says Yk1 hopes to make the facility available for the rest of the month.
