RCMP announce ‘Operation Gingerbread’ to run during December

Northwest Territories RCMP Traffic Services have announced they are launching Operation Gingerbread.

Detachments across the Territory will also be a part of the operation.

The RCMP will be checking drivers who use off-road vehicles such as snowmobiles and ATV’s.

Northwest Territories RCMP Traffic Services, Cpl Todd Scalpen, says impaired driving is entirely preventable and will continue to be a main focus during the campaign.

“Similar to other years, we want to be visible in our communities and encourage motorists to drive safely and to find other means of transport home after partaking in holiday events.”

Last year, during Operation Gingerbread, 22 motorists were charged with Impaired Driving in the Northwest Territories. The RCMP checked nearly 1500 vehicles.

The annual campaign will run until January 1st, 2018.
