Fatal Yellowknife apartment fire deemed not suspicious

Yellowknife RCMP, along with the the Northwest Territories Office of the Fire Marshal and NWT Coroner Service, have determined a fire at a 46th Street apartment to not be suspicious.

The fire took place on April 7th. A 55-year old woman died from injuries sustained in the fire. Both her and another resident were transferred to Stanton Territorial Hospital where the woman was later declared deceased. The other resident was treated for smoke inhalation.

The fire was the second fire of the night. YKFD officials responded to a call on Bigelow Crescent. The resident of the building advised officials upon their arrival the fire had been extinguished. Work was done to ensure the fire would not spread any further.

No injuries were reported in this particular incident.

A third fire in the last week occurred on Tuesday afternoon. An update was provided on Wednesday.
